The most frequently used means of transport in our age is probably the cars.... Used by some to reach from one place to the other; and a ‘passion’ for some others, the cars have maintained their development since the day on which they were invented up to now. These vehicles, which used to be pulled by mounts in the past, continue to maintain their journey in time with alternative sources of energy following the fuels such as petrol and diesel.
The history of the cars date back to wheel, which is the invention of all times. They were identified as ‘’Satan’s Car’ among the public as it frightened people due to the loud noise it produced in the years when it was first used. Following names such as Henry Ford, Henry Royce, Ettore Bugatti, Enzo Ferrari made great contributions in the development of the cars in addition to that of those, who invented the first car, in our travel from the cars, which horses were attached at the back because of the possibility of breakdown, to the automobiles in the present day.
THE FIRST CARS OF THE WORLD
It is stated in historical sources that different civilizations such as Sumerians, Egyptians, Assyrians, Greeks and Hittites used the two-wheel cars, which were determined to have been used for the first time as chariot in Mesopotamia in 3000s B.C. In descriptive reliefs, obtained through several excavations, it was determined that such cars were made of wood and covered with animal tissue. Afterwards chariots, which had a place in the history of the old world, emerged due to the fact that the cars got bigger in order to cover the distances more quickly and easily and that the number of horses increased.
The first harnessed car in Istanbul in the Ottoman period is called as ‘’koçu’’, driven by two cows. Afterwards significant developments took place about the cars in Ottoman Empire together with Europe. As a result of this ‘Katipodası’, which draws attention with its colors and adornments among the means of transport, was started to be used. In recent times of 19th century, open-sided phaetons from Europe for two people; landaus for 4 people, that consists of two sofas opposed to each other with two bellows from the front and back, which is the type of phaeton with an opening and closing top and coupes for two people, which are horse carts, made of wood completely, closed with side windows came into play.
The first ‘Zatülhareke’ (Self-moving cars) in Ottoman Empire
Istanbul met with the first automobile in 1895. This automobile was called as ‘zatülhareke’ i.e., self-moving car, in that period of Ottoman Empire…
DEVELOPMENT IN THE WORLD
Void Vacan invented the first self-motorized car of the world in 1769. In the following years, Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot invented the road car with 3 wheels, operating with steam. But this invention was refused in France and development adventure of the car continued in other countries. In Germany, Karl Benz designed 2-cylinder ‘Benz Patent Motorwagen’’, which is the first patented motor car with three wheels, operated with petrol. At the same time, Bulden, an American inventor, took the patent of 4-wheel cars. In 1900s, a great many cars were produced in France and America. American Ransom E. Olds is also included among the firsts. Olds Motor Vehicle company later manufactured cars under the name of ‘Oldsmobil’ and Cadillac and Ford brands started mass-production immediately after the foregoing.
TOWARDS THE PRESENT DAY
Right after the invention of car motors, Rudolf Diesel obtained 10% more power in steam motors. He continued his studies regarding that innovation and then he established his first laboratory in Augsburg in Germany. Having advanced his studies here, he realized the invention of the motor, called atmospheric gas motor. This motor was used in mass-production in 260 D model, developed by German Mercedes-Benz company. Not only did the motors of the automobiles, which have constantly changed within years, but also the colors, lines, designs of the same constantly developed. In parallel to advancing technology, the number of those, who are interested in sport automobiles, emerged because of the increase in the performance of the motors, continued to increase day by day.
AUTOMOBILES OF OUR AGE
Today, electric and hybrid model automobiles, which are alternative sources of energy, also became demandable after diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles. Thanks to the special charge points in shopping malls and fuel stations, completely electric cars, which can obtain charge, which is enough for setting off in a few hours as well as hybrid cars, which are operated both with electricity and petrol, are rather supported in accordance with changing conditions of the world both by the governments and the drivers, who are sensitive to the environment where they live. In addition to these, most of the brands started to introduce their automobiles with artificial intelligence in the fairs. Developed in the light of kinetic temperature philosophy, the models establish a mutual relation by understanding the feelings and needs of the drivers and increase the driving safety.
